Venezky Photobook Workshop

Led by designer Martin Venezky, this workshop challenged students to create a photobook about making a photobook—emphasizing collaboration, experimentation, and process. Over the course of five days, teams of junior and senior design and photography students were challenged to conceive, capture, write, and design a photobook that told a story, while also documenting the process of its creation.

Group Project: Breaking the Cave
Our group began with Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, photographing the same space and analyzing how our individual perspectives shaped the images. Ironically, we found ourselves stuck in our own “cave”—overthinking the concept. The breakthrough came when we let go of perfection and focused on documenting our process instead. Our final book reflects this journey: a story about perspective, discovery, and creative freedom.
